Polar night at the edge of the Arctic Sea – for two months the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon.
In a magical twilight, amidst snow and ice, a family of German expatriates hopes for a new beginning: Niels, Maria and son Markus.
But soon after they arrive, Niels and Maria sense that their new surroundings will not be able to save their withering relationship. Niels throws himself into his work as an engineer – and into an affair. Maria does overtime at the hospice, and Markus struggles with puberty and his new fellow students. But then one night a terrible accident occurs that changes everything.
The coldness in their hearts subsides and, miraculously, the tragedy becomes a turning point for all three family members: the secret shared by Maria and Niels forces them to confront their lives – and leads them on the path towards redemption and mercy.

The 14th Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. (SFFLA) has set sail with its annual immersion into the world of Nordic film Jan 12, 13, 19, 20 at the Writers Guild Theater Beverly Hills with a program of films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden which will extend across the waters to Baltic neighbors, with offerings from Latvia and Lithuania, along with this Norwegian-German co-production.

The screening of "Mercy" is supported by the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles.

Did you know that a lot of jewish intellecutal emigrated to Los Angeles - f.e. the philosopher T.W. Adorno .... But there were thousands who left Germany, Austria ... Nazi-infiltrated Europe ... and as you might know out of the famous film "Schindler's List" there have been some who had luck and have been safed bei Schindler. - Don't forget them LA-TIMES reports : "Leon Leyson dies at 83; youngest survivor on Schindler's List Leyson was one of the 1,100 Jews saved from the Nazis by German industrialist Oskar Schindler. He taught school in Huntington Park for 39 years and shared his survival story with others."

Its cold in LA ... LOL

Actually LA-Media overreact at cold temperatures ... a funny video on you-tube .. Last year I stayed in LA also during the winter-time ... what a wonderful winter there :-) almost 14 degrees .... - today back in Austria it is really cold here .. some degrees under zero -... happy to be the owner of a fire place :-)
